Komodo Dragon Born
Tuesday, December 8th, 2009
The Singapore Zoo has reported that a rare Komodo dragon has been born. This is the first Komodo dragon born in an Asian zoo outside of Indonesia, the natural home of the reptile.
Komodo dragons are listed as vulnerable. There are only 3000 of the lizards in the wild.
In captivity they are hard to breed. Zoos often have a lack of experience incubating eggs, and pairings are often fruitless.
Komodo dragons have been known to attack humans. Recently, a a fisherman was killed by the lizards on a island preserve.
