This past Saturday was International Vulture Awareness Day. Did you know that vultures are nature’s cleanup crew? With highly acidic stomachs, vultures can safely consume the carcasses of animals. Their digestive systems kill almost all viruses and bacteria. Vultures’ droppings do not carry disease. In this way, by eating dead animals, vultures prevent the spread of diseases such as botulism, salmonella, cholera, and anthrax.
